When I tasted this crisp white wine at Aldi’s recent Summer tasting, I had to pinch myself when I saw the price. Dry, fresh, elegant and with a touch of ripe white peach, it’s a Summery bargain.
Gavi, you see, is a big hit in places like Milan (it’s made in Piemonte, North-west Italy, from the Cortese grape), and people are willing to pay a lot for it. Gavi, to put it bluntly, is dead fashionable. Examples can found for €20 or more but it’s never a wine of any great complexity. This one is fun, yet elegant, and so cheap that a lot of people may overlook it on the basis that it “can’t be any good.”
More fool them.
