Bastible is a very confident modern restaurant that eschews the vanities and fripperies of an earlier generation. Not a square inch of chintz, or carpet; Hyacinth Bucket would hate it. And the cooking, by Barry FitzGerald formerly of London’s Harwood Arms and our own Etto, is the stuff of genius, of alchemy. In my review I confessed defeat in trying to decribe how good it is. Isn’t that enough? (Barry’s grandmother and my mother were cousins, by the way).
